What an emotional day!
Jansen is such a trooper when we go to the doctor/hospital.
Chris and I told him he was going to Scottish Rite today to have a hearing test (ABR)done and that he would get to play with all the toys at the hospital. We walked into the hospital and he went straight for the toys. They called us back quickly and Jansen played basketball for an hour and a half waiting for the doctor to come and get him. I took Jansen back to the OR and he cried for about 2 minutes until he took his "sleepy meds" and then I left.
While waiting in the room for Jansen, I received a call from Dr. Roberson in California about his CT scan. Well it wasn't the news I wanted to hear, so I broke down into tears and gave Chris the phone so he could talk to the doctor. The doctor scored Jansen's "inner little ear a 4." We needed a good 7 or higher to have an ear canal built. Jansen is missing 2 major inner ear bones and their is nothing they can do to restore hearing in his left ear.
Now to a good note. Once I finally clamed down the Audioligist came in to discuss the results of the ABR testing. Jansen's right ear is PERFECT!! He has NO hearing loss in his "good ear." This is the best news. The audiologist that took care of Jansen today was the BEST! Her name was Lauren, and she answered all of our questions and then some. Chris and I were so impressed with her that we will have Jansen's six month checkups with her from now on instead of going to the audiologist in Fayeteville.
She did discuss Jansen's little ear, and told us about a hearing aid that he could wear that would vibrate off the nerve, so that he could hear out of his little ear.Jansen does have a working nerve in his little ear. The hearing aid is called the BAHA (bone anchored hearing aid). Chris and I don't know a lot about the BAHA, but have heard about it. We are going to do some research on this to learn more about it. Sorry this post is so long, but we had a very busy day! Have a great weekend.

Alison, Sorry about your disappointment but praise God for the perfect hearing! With his personality and looks you know he will excell. This "little ear" will be just a small foot note in his life! See you soon. Nancy
