Set back...

Chris took Jansen to see Dr. Jones yesterday to look at his "new ear" and the sore that has been concerning us. Dr. Jones looked at it and it is exposed cartilage.

Info: When they cut to put the cartilage in they always cut very thin to give the best definition of the ear. In this one area of Jansens ear...it was too thin causing it to split.

So this means :We are off to surgery on Tuesday, December 7, to do a skin graft for this area. The surgery should take about 2 hours and it will be out-patient. Jansen will be wearing the head netting for another 10 days and no physical activity until Jan. 4. This whole thing is upsetting to Chris and I, but we know it has to be done before Jansen gets an infection.

We trust Dr. Jones and know that he wants to do what is best for Jansen and his "new ear." We are all still very excited about the way his ear looks, minus the sore on the top. Please continue to pray for Jansen and a successful surgery on Tuesday.

After getting this news yesterday we ran out to listen to the wonderful TCES students at The Christmas Program and this little guy was so cute singing (or should I say socializing)...

Bump in the road...

(ear day 11)
Please say a little prayer for us today. Jansen will go back to see Dr. Jones at 2:00 so that he can look at the sore on his new ear. The Dr. is a little worried it could be exposed cartilage. We are praying it is not. I will update later today.

Thankful....

Jordan and Jansen having breakfast at Chick-fil-a

Jansen and PawPaw(my dad)aka...TroubleSome of you have asked about Jansen's rib scar..Well here it is..He is starting to get around a lot better now, but still sore when he moves a certain way.

(Ear day 11)
Check this out....We can't believe the difference in his ear in just 5 days. The place on the top that looks like a sore, we are putting lots of Bacitracin Cream on it to help clean it up.
I want to share a little something that Jansen said this week:
We went out to dinner and as Jansen gets out of the car he says..."These people are going to see me with 2 ears. They are going to think I have always had 2 ears."
Every time Jansen talks about his new ear he has the biggest grin on his face. He is so proud. Thanks Dr. Jones for making my little boys dreams come true.

Post Op

Jansen had postop this morning. Look at how much the bandage has moved since last week. He is doing GREAT!! Yesterday he was outside trying to play baseball with a friend. I quickly put a stop to that. We are suppose to keep him low key for another 3 weeks. This is going to be very hard for him.

The Dr. was very please with the way Jansen is healing. He took the bandage off his stomach and told us to keep ointment on it. We even got a quick look at the "new ear" before they put the new bandage on. It's still swollen a pretty good bit, BUT you can definitely see the new ear under all the swelling. As the swelling goes down you will begin to see the ridges that are throughout the outer ear. Before you scroll down to look at the pic let me remind you that this is a 4 stage surgical process. And we are just on stage 1. Right now it looks like his "little" ear is sitting on top of the new ear. AND THAT IS WHAT IT IS SUPPOSED TO LOOK LIKE :) The 2nd stage of surgery is called "earlobe repositioning", this is where they will take Jansen's "little ear" and reposition it to be his "new" earlobe. Right now we are pleased with the results and Jansen is getting more excited about the finished product in the near future.
Your prayers are still greatly appreciated as the healing process continues on. 2nd Stage surgery is scheduled for mid January.

(Ear 6 days after surgery)
We will take the head bandage off for good on Thursday and wash his nasty hair. The Kenty's have a lot to be Thankful for this Thanksgiving. We hope everyone has a HAPPY THANKSGIVING.

How am I going to keep this little guy down???

All this little guy can do for 4 weeks is this......
when he would really like to be playing football with his friends.
so for now he will sit back and tell them what to do :)

WOW!!! How am I going to keep Jansen low key for 4 weeks. He has played Wii baseball today, gone to GA Academy Baseball Clinic, and now wanting to play football with the neighbor kids. This is going to be so hard for Jansen.

What a great day...

It was sooooo nice to sleep in our bed last night. Today I am getting things unpacked while Jansen is slowly starting to get back to normal. He has been playing all morning and getting up by himself to eat and go to the bathroom. It is amazing how quickly he turned around from yesterday!! I gave him a bath and he loved every minute of it.

After his bath, I had a pair of Pjs for him to put on and he asked "Why do I have to wear those?", "I want to wear normal clothes." WOW!! I wasn't expecting him to say that. We both walked up the stairs to find him "normal clothes." He did a great job walking up the stairs. He even made the comments...Look mom, I can walk faster now....YEAH!!
Thanks Aunt Donna and Uncle Eddie for coming to visit us today. Yall got to see Jansen at his best so far. While they were visiting Jansen walked outside by himself too. I am excited now to see what tomorrow will bring for Jansen after the great day today.

Home Sweet Home....

We are so glad to be at home. We dropped Chris off at work and Jansen and I came home and slept all afternoon. Once Jordan got home from school the boys started playing together. We also enjoyed the company of The Cashions. Thanks for the yummy cookies Kelly. Jansen ate a good dinner and loved the cookies.

Hanging out....

Thanks to Jansen's great grandmom for the cute PJs and pillowcase. Everyone at the hospital love them.
Jordan came to visit us today and we took a long walk to the Kids Zone. Jansen didn't do much but he enjoyed seeing all the stuff. We took him outside for a little while and watched Jordan play basketball with Chris and PawPaw. Jansen has eaten some food today, but is still in a lot of pain in the rib area. We are waiting on Dr. Jones to visit to see if we are staying another night or not.

Recovery Day 1

rib graft....where all the pain is coming from.....

We had a good night. The nurses came in several times during the night to check on him. He was given pain meds twice during the night. We just took him on a short walk, but he wasn't liking it to much. He ate a few bites of an egg, toast, and waffle this morning and was given more meds. Resting now and we were told they will be getting him up in 30 mintues to walk more. Chris and I are laughing at Jansen because he will not talk to anyone and acts like he is sleeping every time the nurses come in...We think he is enjoying all the attention.

Jansen is being such a big boy today. He has been sleeping most of the day. He has thrown up several times and just took a little walk around. No pain meds since early this afternoon. We are hoping for a quite night with no pain and maybe even getting him to eat and drink alittle. Thanks for all the prayers.

Let the healing begin....

We are all finally together. He is sleeping good right now. The drains that you see on his head will come off before we go home. They are talking about letting us go home late tomorrow night. I will try to keep updating, but I might need to take care of my little patient.

Surgery is over....
